There were some things I really liked about this, and some things that were pretty meh. I thought Hemy was a really interesting character in the first book, but in this one, he was really scaled back. There was one kind of dirty sex scene in the beginning, but other than that, he was pretty tame compared to how he was in the first book, and even less wild than Slade's character in the first book, which really didn't fit what we'd learned about him before.

I did like the whole second-chance romance angle with his first love leaving him due to his drug addiction, but it didn't really feel like the reconciliation parts were enough. Onyx would start out strong, but then would give in so quickly to Hemy in order to protect her "big secret" that it was kind of ruined. It didn't feel like he ended up having to do very much to get her back.

And the author really hits you over the head with the "secret" that it's so obvious what it is by about the second time it's mentioned. So it just ends up feeling irritating that Onyx doesn't come out with it sooner. Hemy's reaction to it was completely ridiculous, too. The fact that it took him three weeks to realize how silly he was being was also disappointing, especially since he needs someone else to point it out to him.

So I liked the beginning, was a bit bored by the end. If this had actually been the same wild and dark Hemy we met in the first book, it would have been a lot better too.

  | I just didn’t like Onyx, and even when we found out why she was acting the way she was, it made even less sense

In terms of erotica it's a 5 star read, the story however just kept building up to be more and more dramatic and I didn't like how things were spun. Drug problem? Ok focus on that. Missing sister? Focus on that. Lots of women? Focus on that. Instead we got lots of problems and I felt like I was being attacked by the problems you get when your best friend decides she wants to get back with her ex for the sixth time and all they ever do is lie to one another or make assumptions.

I also only read this so I could get to Cale. Shit name, but a hero Virgin. Need I say more as to why I want it? Unluckily for me I can't read a series out of order and skip ones because this one never really got my attention just like the first didn't so much. Hoping Cale is one I love

Hard when it's the same narrators from book 1 and you listen back to back.

BUT........ Oh My HEMY. It was hard to not think of things as 'cheating'. I kinda hate when the H hooks up before the h when you as the reader know he's with the wrong person. But oh my damn. A Threesome with HEMY would be a dream.
