I enjoyed the first book in this series, Slade, a lot. But I have to say I definitely enjoyed this one even more.
Hemy is another sexy, alpha male. The story starts out a few years in the past, to give you a glimpse of how Hemy was, and what his and Onyx’s relationship was like. Fast forward a few years, separated from Onyx and filling the time by getting drunk and stripping at the Walk of Shame club, he runs into a grown up Onyx, and he’s determined to get his true love back in his life, once and for all. As he states at some point in the story, “A real man never gives up on his woman; he would die for her.”
This story is enjoyable, and the punctuation quirks and other similar things I had minor issues with in the first book improved greatly in this second book, helping move the story along even smoother.
I also liked that Hemy and Onyx had some sort of relationship before the main part of the story started. As I have mentioned in numerous previous reviews, I really, really hate the whole “insta-love” thing, where the two main characters fall absolutely, utterly in love with each other in a very short period of time. Hate that, and it’s not believable. So with this story, being a shorter one like the first book, it really helped sell the love aspect of the story, knowing that the two characters have known each other for years and years and didn’t just meet.
I was also afraid at first that Hemy was just going to be a duplicate of Slade, in character personality at least. A lot of authors never tend to really make each character, be that female or male, in these types of stories distinctively different. It ends up essentially being the same characters and story, to some extent, with just different names each time around. Which makes for a boring series. This book and series, so far, has done a good job of separating each characters personality fairly well, yet again making for a more enjoyable read.
Overall, I really enjoyed this addition to the series, and would still recommend this series so far to those who enjoy a sexy alpha male, steamy sex scenes, and a quick read. Can’t wait to see what happens in the 3rd book!

Hemy and Onyx have known each other for ten years. They were friends at first but then they became more. Together they were inseparable. They were each others firsts. When Hemy was 19 and Onyx was 18, onyx left. She was hurt and broken of Hemys "life-style".
“Every day that I’m with you I die a little more inside; lose a little more hope.”
Hemy knows that he's a mess. He had a messed up childhood. His parents were such assholes they separated him and his sister from each other and they also abandoned them both in different places.
“I know I’m nothing but a big fuck up. I’ve always been worthless. Even my parents thought so.”
Four years later and hemy can't forget about his sister Sage or Onyx. He searched for his sister everywhere and he can't stop hoping that Onyx will come back...Until they met again. Can I just say that they're so freaking hot together.

Can Onyx trust Hemy with her heart again?
Is he sober enough to be the man that she deserves and needs?

“Family isn’t always bound by blood. It’s so much more than that”
