This book had me in a chokehold however I found the first third of it to be a tad slow. Once things started to fall into place I was hooked.c

An effective and exciting mystery that probes into social hierarchy and trust. A webbed and connected world, the land is richly rendered and the people are created with a deep sense of naturalism.

Gorgeous, heartbreaking, thoughtful book. Complicated themes like classism, sexism, homophobia, addiction, abuse, trauma, friendship, family versus chosen family.

Even though this one takes place during the summer, it still felt like a great October read to me. It's blended between literary fiction and mystery, a bit like Everything I Never Told You (which I love) but with more focus on crime solving. I had a bunch of theories and was right in some cases and fully wrong in others. So it kept me on my toes. I don't know if I'd put it as one of my absolute favorite books of the year, as many have, but it was a very good mystery with realistic characters.

Genuinely, this is the best mystery I've read in a long time. The pacing was perfect and deliberate. The characters were interesting, and the mystery unfolded in slow fascinating pieces.

A lot of mystery novels have a half dozen twists that come out of nowhere, but in God of the Woods every clue is present and makes sense once you have the reveal. I didn't guess the mystery at all but once it was on display I could see all the bread crumbs that let to it.

I highly recommend this novel.
