I am in awe. This book was incredible, and it had a powerful message. It explores the relationship between humans and animals. But also the connection between humans and nature. It was a beautiful story but also very difficult to read at times. I feel like anyone who reads this would take something away from it. Also, I couldn’t help but think of the song Colors of the Wind by Judy Kuhn while reading this, which made it much more memorable.

Dialogue was best part of the story, flawed main character, but felt maybe her growth wasn't gotten realistically. But felt sympathy for the characters and they felt like real people even if the plot didn't. I would cautiously recommend it, but certainly not to everyone...

The literal ONLY reason this isn’t getting 5 stars, is because I think the vocabulary of Scottish people was not used correctly. Lots of research into wolves, climate change, etc just to have slang from locals botched up.

That being said, the rest of this book was phenomenal. I read Migrations by this author first, and both live up to the “hype”. I like how she uses flashbacks in her stories to keep a mystery.

I caught on to the twist early on, but it has nothing to do with the writing. I think the writing actually had me second guessing my thoughts on multiple occasions.

Inti loves her wolves and her sister and not much else until she begins a project in the Scottish Highlands to re-forest the area by introducing wolves. Two stories are going at once as Inti alternates between the present time, dealing with angry locals and the past about her sister’s abusive husband and the terror he caused them both.

This was beautifully written and powerful. I loved this one, even when I had to put it down because it can be a lot.
