One of my least favourite Bridgestone books. Maybe because in the TV show Eloise knows what she wants and doesn’t compromise. And she’s the most feminist of the characters. I think Julia Quinn mustn’t like Eloise, because she’s ended up with the least feminist husband. He didn’t seem to have many redeeming qualities. In this one it seems The author wants to tackle some issues so we have child abuse, post-partum depression and suicide. A tough ask of a light-hearted regency romp. But I really didn’t like Sir Phillip and so was hard to actually want the two characters to end up together. And what is it with the male characters being afraid of being in love. This is the second one who didn’t want to fall in love.

2.5 stars. Out of all the Bridgerton stories I've read so far I think I was the most disappointed with this one for some reason? I cant quite put my finger on why to be honest.

I guess in the TV series they've portrayed Eloise in such a strong independent way, that I didn't feel this was a good enough ending for her. For her to be suddenly wanting a relationship because Penelope was now married and she had this image of them both growing old and single together forever felt a bit weak for her character.

The children reminded me so much of the kids from Mary Poppins to be honest. As much as I expected a lot of how things pan out for them in the story, I guess it felt all a little bit easy for them to fall in love with Eloise so fast. I know she had her fair share of endurance to get through with their pranks gone too far (even though not on purpose from their end) maybe I can attribute that being a reason they're love for her accelerated.

As much trauma as Sir Phillip has endured, which was all awful, there were still a lot of moments where he annoyed me. I felt like some of it was a little far fetched and I'm starting to feel that smut is just being added in for smut sake with this series. I will still continue on and finish the series despite this though as I'm especially keen to get to Francesca's story!
