7/10. A fun little backstory to one my favorite Stranger Things characters! Lots of small references to Season 2, but nothing really major. I've always been nostalgic about the 80s, but this book reminds me of why I probably would've hated it as well, like Robin.

Spoiler
The end was really bitter at first and my queer heart was left disappointed. But the author sweetened it a bit with a little bit of queer dancing and a fun tie in to Season 3.torla's review against another edition

A book that shows you a different perspective is always a good read. I could just hear Maya Hawke saying a lot of words (as Robin, of course) and it was nice to get a glimpse of the Hawkins crew. So many 80’s moments. I could just hear “Thieves like us” while Robin remade her Prom dress

jesus christ. this book took me 4 months to read. not because it was long, or because i didn’t want it to end, but it was a pain to read. i had to force myself to finish this damn book. i got it as a gift for christmas (?) one year, and i was running out of things to read so i decided to finally read this one. i regret this choice. if you like stranger things, and you’re a middle schooler, maybe you’ll like this! but if you are an avid reader who just so happens to also be a fan of the show, you’re not gonna enjoy this one. i promise you.

there were some pacing issues in the last couple of chapters but honestly i do not care because i loved the whole book so so much. robin was always one of my faves and reading this really bumped her up to my top 5 characters in stranger things. i loved the narrative choice of robin never experiencing internal homophobia but just being the type of person who had neglected getting to know herself for the longest time. very much appreciated the cameos made by mike, karen, will, jon, joyce, bob, nancy, and steve of course
