Weirdly horny despite the characters' ages (which were already impossible to believe as badass space agents), annoying dialog with grating catchphrases, and I simply lost interest in the plot. It's like a combo of the worst of The Expanse, Star Trek, and Firefly.

I enjoyed this a lot, but I do think there's too much of it – a book with a hundred fewer pages could have amped up the tension and incorporated more of the titular woods, but instead we get a lot of treatise about how most of these people are terrible or have done terrible things. The pacing makes up for that, and the conclusion brings it all home admirably.
