Darah Lace delivers a surprisingly well-written cowboy romp that avoids ridiculous, overdone, tedious tropes. Truly a standout in the #instalust genre. We go straight to action from the first page and the characters keep coming, and coming, and coming. Yes, that was a double entendre.

Despite the generous serving of delectable roughhousing, *whew* the action NEVER gets boring. The characters went quite a few steps past being well-endowed. Clay's inner struggle to decide how to approach his relationship with Lindsey was reasonable. He isn't the usual one-layered hardheaded cowboy buff. Lindsey's dedication to getting what she wants from a partner while exacting self-respect was admirable. She refused to stand by and settle for someone's half-baked efforts. She voiced her needs, knew her self-worth, and when to walk. Evan was an all-around great guy and an even better wingman. I can't wait to read his story.

If you enjoy confident unabashed characters with abundant chemistry, snappy dialogue, commendable BDSM/consent/safe sex practices, and a dash of angst/pining then I highly suggest reading this book. It was a solid (Amazon) 4-star delight. Yee Haw.

I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did. I was preparing myself for the worst since the last few romantasy novels I’ve read were inta-love insta-lust built on top of lukewarm chemistry and terrible dialogue. The writing was solid, with just enough worldbuilding and engaging plot to be an engaging and easy read. The characters were flawed, likeable, believable, and I genuinely enjoyed the growing attraction between them as well as the tension and obstacles they faced when deciding how far they should take things.

It’s giving ✨ The Witcher ✨ and 🐉 Yennefer🥀 vibes with regard to the constant grumpy banter, loneliness, feeling unworthy, clear tension and pining. A couple tears were shed. Also some Throne of the Fallen energy, with the two characters slowly getting to know one another, although there’s alot left to uncover. Also Mr. Demon absolutely owns consent in stark contrast to less appealing characters. I’ve never seen consent weaved in so smoothly because usually it’s just awkwardly plugged in.  💅🏼

I’m a somewhat choosy reader and am not afraid to DNF. I’ve been disappointed and dissatisfied by poorly written mainstream dark fantasy books (Kingdom of the Wicked, King of Battle and Blood, Neon Gods I’m looking at you) so this free “Stuff Your Kindle” day find was a nice surprise!

This is the first time in years I was left truly wanting more when hit with a cliffhanger. At the same time, the ending served as a solid conclusion to the overall plot of the novel. I’ll most definitely be reading the conclusion to this dark romantic fantasy duology coming out later this year.

SPOILERS:
I’m legit like OH SHIT THE CLIFFHANGER 😭 🐉 the evil queen? How will they take the throneeee? Is she going to have a miracle baby because my dude allegedly can't conceive?? They’re not really giving indestructible duo and feel like they keep winning out of sheer luck ⚔️ .
