Kicking, screaming, throwing up. This is my new favorite GL! The flirting is adorable, the connection, THE ART. I am absolutely smitten. I need merch and volume 2 NOW.

Feminist and Angry. I loved this little Novella! After a séance, one of their friends begin acting strangely and it becomes clear that something is within her. This book was so great. The Mexican culture, the strong femininity, and the anger was all so palpable and really made the story.

Only Amal El-Mohtar could make me cry over grammar. This story is gorgeous, the magic system is so beautiful and unique I cannot imagine how she thought it up. This is a story of love. Love of your sister, love of your work, love of your craft, and love of your lover. By the end I had tears in my eyes. I don't want to say anymore, go in blind and enjoy.

My first read of the year is indeed 5 stars. I absolutely loved this, despite the uncertain start.

So this is told from the pov of a child, I believe she is 9. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but this perspective made the story absolutely bone chilling. The way you experiance everything from her pov and see how the parents react works so well. The description of Other Mommy is sickening and this may be the first time I've ever been scared of a book. I for sure shut my closets when I go to sleep now. The way this story kept progressing worked so well and the end has my jaw on the floor!!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I enjoyed this!! It had me hooked from the first chapter, though I am still mulling over how much I actually liked it. I thought the story was an amazing idea, the setting was so atmospheric and alive, but the characters... They weren't all that likable? I think that was partially the point, as we watch them all descend into madness but they didn't start out that great either. Not sure, overall I enjoyed it!!

I'm starting to wonder if Trembly has personal beef with dialogue. Interesting I suppose? Not really horror, and it felt like I was having a story told and explained to me rather then read it myself.

I'm a little annoyed I read this whole thing because I figured out the twists from the start. A very predictable book with too much exposition and not enough action. Overall a drab read.

This was fantastic! I would die to see this as a film. I loved the idea behind it and the execution was flawless.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 33%.
2 slurs is entirely too many. The book needs to be updated.

Amazing. The twists, the turns, the gore. This was an A+ suspenseful horror, and my first Darcy Coates book, definitely won't be my last. I really couldn't put this down, I loved it.
