excavated the crusty copy my brother and I shared to get a taste of that lovely nostalgia once more. I know everyone loses their mind over that one arbok panel but honestly the psyduck with its eye peeking out of its skull is far more disturbing and stuck with me a lot more as a child.

cute and frothy in a pleasing sort of way. I don't know what sort of wiring I possess to so thoroughly enjoy reading Building Compilations as a narrative but it really works for me in this story; perhaps Baldree just has a knack for tapping into the satisfaction of creating something out of the ruins of what it was before - it's a trait that he imbues into the workers of Legends and Lattes too.

I have qualms though. viv's arc didn't really seem to move? it just got reiterated a lot. the rest of the cast slot into their respective allyship with her very easily. too easily... I wish more had been made of their dynamics with each other and as a group, because I loved them all a lot (Thimble the most, of course)

dissertation reading. dripping post-modern irony into the living room when it shouldn't even be at the door yet. of course, this prescience serves to be quite a fortunate narrative fit.

Helen is a delicious play, I love weird little stories that inhabit the crevices of these big Epic events. What if Helen was all a dream....

if I was oedipus I would've simply had better luck. I would've simply not been doomed from my birth. 😁

I find myself uncertain how to feel about this book: somehow it is not grotesque enough, while also relishing it the lashings of blood and other viscera it produces far too much.

takes a profound and perturbing turn for the racist and antisemitic about two thirds of the way in.

a very mixed Christmas stocking of a book: you got some chocolates, some cool presents and the occasional bruised orange, but overall I had a fun time, and recognise its very difficult to write something with the super engage mystery-adjacent format of a doctor who story in like. less than a novella amount of pages. 1, 3, 7, 8, 9 and 12's stuck out to me the most :]
