I  feel like the ending dragged, but maybe it's because I've been reading this for the past 5 hours straight? There was definitely too much going on at the end there...

I would very much like to write a review but I read this so spaced out from the first 2 books that I don't think my review would do this book justice. THAT being said, I cannot stop thinking about these characters and the way abercrombie evolves and devolves and so completely changes them from the characters we met at the beginning and yet are still the same in some ways. just cannot get over it. I can't wait to reread the original trilogy and then this one again.

i’m actually speechless like I don’t know what to say because I had a whole review forming in my head as I read this book and now it’s all gone and I’m speechless… I’ll rate and maybe review soon. kaladin is forever my everything.

ok. I’ve had a night to process. my final rating is 4.75 stars. only because some parts did drag and I got bored at some points, also some kaladin chapters felt more like extended szeth chapters and that irked me. but otherwise, sanderson did what he does best and that’s make me feel completely unhinged and crazy while reading his books.

everything below is my entire spoiler-y thoughts, though I focus way more on the characters rather than the plot SO. do with that what you will.

am I absolutely devastated that kaladin, shallan, and adolin don’t reunite in the end? yes. am I absolutely heartbroken that kaladin most likely won’t ever see either of them again, or his family again? of course. did my brain explode when he became herald and did I eat it up? ABSOLUTELY (though not at first, I was very scared at first). kaladin’s growth throughout the series is my absolute favorite thing I have ever read, he is such a beautifully written and immensely loved character and ultimately I trust wherever sanderson ends up taking him, I know he’ll be okay. but it does hurt really bad that no one he knows now, all his friends who loved and helped him become who he is, will probably ever see him again... would sanderson actually do that???? kaladin, shallan, and adolin are FAMILY. period.

honestly, I have a lot of similar thoughts towards shallan, just not to the same extent. I vividly remember hating her character in the first 2, kind into 3, books but I have grown to love and appreciate her character and all the growth she has experienced as well. in fact, she has quickly become one of my favorite characters ever. genuinely badass in the end, I know she'll figure out how to get back to adolin...

SPEAKING of adolin, his arc this book was amazing. he created something completely new, the "unoathed" is actually insane. I love adolin realizing that he's more than just a duelist, and you can't ever be perfect or meet everyone's expectations. I wish I had more to say, but I fear I'll sound like a broken record. basically, everyone had incredible character growth and I think sanderson handled it all really carefully and intricately.

as for the rest of the characters I love renarin, I love rlain, and I love their relationship. wish we saw more but I guess it was the end of the world... szeth, jasnah, and navani are very cool and interesting to me and I’m excited to see where they all end up. I feel horrible with that happened to gavinor (kid actually lost 15 years of his life in the spirtual realm, how do you even come back from that), and RIP dalinar. that actually shocked me.

as for the plot... I mean it's insane and this is book 5 so I can't say a lot. I don't know how sanderson has so many ideas and how he manages to execute them so well, but he does so go off. my only problem with the book is the almost ridiculous amount of characters and POVs. some characters I desperately wanted more chapters from (renarin, rlain, LIFT (I guess she has her own book though)), and some characters I could have used less chapters... (mostly szeth, sorry). but it was a lot for one book that already had a lot going on.

craziest quote goes to kaladin:
“‘We have lost, finally. Honor is dead.’
‘Yes,’ a quiet voice said. ‘Honor is dead.’
Both heralds spun to see Kaladin Stormblessed slowly pushing himself up to a seated position, hair disheveled… Then he sighed and heaved himself to his feet.
‘But,’ Stormblessed said, ‘I’ll see what I can do.’”

craziest moment goes to kaladin:
“Thoughts intruded and stabbed Kaladin’s mind, like spears in his flesh, making him scream his flaws. Those he’d lost. Those he’d failed. Storms, he hated this part.
Still, there was nothing to do about it. So Kaladin raised his head and looked up.”

adolin and szeth also had some very crazy moments, but I gotta give it to kaladin. however, both adolin and szeth STOOD UP in this book like for real. I don't even know if that makes sense. I lost my mind several times while reading this book and I never fully got it back.

everyone say thank you brandon sanderson for the creation and gift of kaladin stormblessed.
