Coming from an avid Bernd Heinrich reader who enjoyed his winter & summer world books immensely, i have to admit that i was a bit let down by this one. While i was absolutely fascinated to learn more about ravens, a majority of his experiments to me came off cruel and with a lack of respect for ravens who i see as highly intelligent and feeling birds. I’d recommend it for piquing interest but wouldn’t look to it as any sort of end all be all when it comes to the studying of ravens.

I think this would be a great book, even 4 stars if you already had any basis to culinary anthropology. While it was interesting and a pretty quick read, I would not say it’s accessible to the average person and i found myself getting lost to references that were not nearly explained enough.
Also, i would recommend reading on paper, the audiobook narrator does super distracting accents for all of the quotes which makes them hard to understand.
