I rated this 4 stars as my version was a compilation of three short stories: “A Nasty Business” (5/5), “The Meek One“(4.5/5) and “White Nights” (2.5/5).
Without going into many details because I really don’t wanna spoil them in any way, I can say that:
“A Nasty Business” is, in a nutshell, a millennial’s nightmare: ending up in extremely awkward social happenings where you need to stand firm on your decisions. There were many times when I felt my whole body hurting because of the second-hand embarrassment, but the story is way too good not to go through it.
“The Meek One” starts with a very unexpected situation and then snowballs into the mental ramblings and memories of a man whom may or may not be trusted. I had some doubts on certain scenes, but maybe I’m the paranoid one here.
Unfortunately, “White Nights” was a let down for me. I feel it didn’t have enough depth, the characters were over the top with their emotions and the story just didn’t have enough drive to make it all come together. I wanted more loneliness talk and less clinging onto others actions.
I am now ready to be crucified.
