Despite the title, this should not be read as an introduction to the philosophy of science, even as of 1958. Rather, this is a supple exposition of Carnap's distinctive late logical empiricist approach to science, particularly the exact physical sciences.

While many of the details have been superseded, there is still a lot of insight to mine here for current topics in the philosophy of science.

It's Mahan, with all his brilliance and flaws.

Classic introduction to the subject for those of us for whom naval isn't Our Thing. Good read alongside Mahan.

Cheaper than the German original!
