I was really excited to read this book, but I just couldn’t get into it. The world building was too much with little explanations, and the characters were kinda boring.
I might give it a new try at some point, but right now it’s just too confusing

Is this book mainly plot- or character-driven?
Considering the plot is almost nonexistent, it can’t be anything but character driven.
This is supposed to be a dystopian romance, but if I’m gonna be honest it’s 95% romance with a sprinkle of dystopian. The world building is barely existent at best.
I honestly don’t know what the main characters are doing to fight against the Reestablishment really, they’re just mildly annoying stealing supplies, it’s generous to call this group of misfits rebels.
The romance is bad, the plot doesn’t exist outside of the romance and the characters are so insanely boring.
It feels like I’m reading a rapidly updated fanfiction, that’s how inconsistent the plot is.
But alas, I have all 6 of the books so I’m gonna keep reading cause although horrifically bad, it’s mildly entertaining and an easy read ;)

I’m gonna be so brutally honest, I hated this book. I feel like I’ve lost braincells.
If you want to read a shitty instant “I would die and kill for you” (in a bad way) romance with 0 chemistry and the tiniest hint of a dystopian setting with a side of nothing, go ahead - this was definitely not my cup of tea, and it should probably stay in 2011.
I will however probably keep reading the series cause like, I’ve got the books already and this is a very easy read + it’s mildly entertaining with how bad it is lmao

I was very intrigued by the premise of this book, overall I enjoyed it, but the characters don’t really stand out to me. Don’t get me wrong, I liked them, but they’re very forgettable.
The writing was a bit too YA for me personally, but ignoring that I did enjoy the story!
✨Love me some existential crisis while facing the extinction of humanity✨
I LOVED the way the author incorporated social media as a sort of time capsule. Lowrie coincidentally finding Maya’s name and finding her past online activity, slowly revealing more and more secrets? SO COOL! I’m not even gonna lie, I think Maya was my favourite character

The main character was insufferable, and the writing relied so much on dialogue, bad dialogue, and I just couldn’t take it anymore.
I can’t tell you what has happened so far either because the story felt so inconsistent and jumping between topics so much that I couldn’t keep up.
I came for horror, not an insecure guy having a massive crush on a girl he just met.

I’m very aware that I’m not the target audience for this book, but for most of the stories I could barely tell the difference between what I read here and what I remember from my childhood.
The dark twists for most was just a paragraph at the end changing, of course with the exception of a few who were reimagined (which I enjoyed!)
Sadly, when only 3/12 of the stories felt like they had time and effort put into the reimagining, I’ll have to give the whole book a low rating

I want to start off by saying that I really enjoyed this book!
I would never think to mix the supernatural with magic, but I think the author did so in a balanced and cohesive way.
The whole story reads like a fairytale, which makes it easy to read and digest despite the heavier themes still keeping you on your toes.
I didn’t read this book because it was marketed as a Rapunzel retelling, and I wouldn’t recommend anyone do that.
There are themes and plot points in common with the Rapunzel story, but at the end of the day this book isn’t a retelling.
It should be read as its own story without a retelling expectation, and appreciated as it is.

I didn’t like this book.
Somehow it felt like nothing was happing at all, the characters were incredibly boring, flat, inconsistent and quite honestly a bit annoying.
The setting had so much potential that wasn’t really used, and some things just felt so random.Yes I am thinking about the hotel guys just coming out to the island and terrorising them, like?? What the fuck was that??? And the romance point between Jessie and Milo was so rushed and felt so forced. There was 0 chemistry outside of “he’s a boy and she’s a girl, and the other boys have a girlfriend/ is gay, so they were meant to be!”
I feel like the cover and blurb lead me to have expectations of the story being more murder-mystery like, maybe some betrayals, more life or death situations and dark secrets or something. But what I got wasthe guide having a stroke, and the teens being stuck on an island while one of them had a breakdown caused by his PTSD. All of it was in his head. Which, to me, feels like a very cheap way to explain everything

A very interesting take on zombie/ghoul apocalypse, that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The balance between young adult and horror themes made it an easy, at times funny and very thrilling read :D

This was the first ever anthology I’ve read, and I really enjoyed it!
All of the stories were unique, with different writing styles and horror themes.
10/10 would recommend if you like scary stories, I think anyone would find something they like here!
