For a dark mafia romance about an assassin obsessed with his naive, super sweet neighbor, Nero surprisingly balances the dark and the kinky bits with light moments of banter. There are moments when the reader expects a character to break the fourth wall, wink, and say, ‘can you believe how over the top all of this is?’ A fun, escapist read! It might be the the last book in the quartet, but I did not feel lost starting here and working backwards.

This book is the first in a new series, and it focuses on laying the foundation rather than moving the plot forward. Lots if hints, foreshadowing, and introduction if characters. Hopefully, the groundwork will bear fruit in the next book.
