The final exchange between Tobias and Rachel was so cute 🥹

This was Coraline-esque in the best way. I love talking animals.

I originally only got this collection because of the titular story, but I picked up the rest of the collection on a whim. As of a now, Ted Chiang is the only writer that made me appreciate short stories. It's a miracle, I tell you.

That said, I feel like his writing style should not work for me, but it does. He writes like a surgeon operates: he's precise, metodical, quick and almost sterile. Every story seems to be narrated from a supernatural being, observing the life of us puny humans with a critical eye from outside the atmosphere, but one that can't help being deeply invested in the inner lives of mankind.

Honestly, the perfect combination for some good science fiction. 

It comes a time in every Emily Henry book (I say this fully knowing I only read two of them) in which I identify so intensely with the protagonist that I have doubts about my privacy.
