“Now let’s bring down the homophobic patriarchy.” Due to me being five years older the characters, it was hard for me to get into the book. While it is very simply written, it’s also evident that this book is meant for a younger audience. I was unaware of this when buying the book but still wanted to see it through. Honestly I wasn’t a fan of how long it took for the love interest to be introduced in the story. This made it harder for me to be really invested in their relationship. I just didn’t feel much chemistry between the characters and plot wise it felt like nothing happened until the end. Loved the diverse cast and would only recommend this to someone looking for very YA, sapphic, light read. Overall, this book just didn’t capture me.

“The gods don’t listen to people like me, but I would go on my knees and beg them to let me keep you. You were once the bane of my existence… and now , you are the center of it…. My entire world was night, and you lit a match. No matter what happens to me in this life, I’ll find you in the next one. I’ll always find you. What I feel for you can never be extinguished. Like the nighttime sky, it is infinite. You and me…we are infinite.” Where do I even begin. This book, no matter if you’re team Grim or team Oro is a roller coaster of emotions. And I hate love triangles for that exact reason. Due to me being team
Grim
the first 200 pages was brutal to experience and painstakingly slow and hard to read. I got frustrated to the point where I had to put this book down for two days to cool off. Then it started going in the direction I wanted it to. But at what cost? My sanity. There’s the way where authors play with your emotions and you enjoy it. Then there’s the other way where it’s to the point you’re getting pissed. I was the latter. I truly am not a fan of love triangles because of this. The ending had my emotions too heightened to the point I didn’t enjoy it like I should have. I was pissed that (this next part is a MAJOR spoiler so beware) Isla chose
Oro still when it came time to pick who to kill and yet Grim wasn’t mad at her he was SCARED because that meant she would die too. It took her remembering what she did to realize she didn’t deserve Oro and THAT’S when she chose Grim. At this point SHE doesn’t deserve Grim.
I’m so mad I had to rant sorry. Overall if you’re like me and get mad when you feel like who you picked in the love triangle isn’t endgame then this will be a tough read. Nothing about this book was fun to read. I was STRESSED. I will also be reading Skyshade….

So This Is Ever After by F.T. Lukens

Did not finish book.
So confusing. Right when the book starts I kept rereading it and looked up to see if there was a book before this one that I didn’t read. There isn’t. The writing tells you it’s definitely for younger people and I wasn’t a fan of it. Doubt I will pick it back up again because seriously wtf goes on in this book I have no clue. There were some funny moments and I love how good looking the characters are but it’s still a no from me.

I read this so long ago but never wrote a review. Took me forever to read this book because I was scared of where it was heading. In like a no no please don’t do that, it’s all a misunderstanding way. Unfortunately the way it ended also made me scared to pick up the third book because what’s going to happen after that?! Overall definitely a youth book. So keep that in mind with the very simplistic way it’s written though I will say the actions in the story adds more depth and makes up for it.

“…the heaviness of her crown far greater than its weight” I enjoyed my self the whole time while reading this book. Until I got to the end. I have a strong dislike for love triangles and may have thrown my book at a wall when I realized that who I wanted her to be with wasn’t picked. That aside, I think the world building was good. Not to much information all at once and easy to understand. Her writing flows good and allows for a nice read. While my main guess was correct, the ending had my jaw dropping lower and lower. She truly had many elements of surprise that I didn’t guess and that is something I love. Plot was good and made me constantly crave more, I’m curious to see how she’ll continue the series. Main character wasn’t annoying but I did dislike some of her actions (and feelings) but not enough to impact my view of her. Overall, give it a read!

Suddenly, I can’t remember exactly why Mira told me to not fuck around outside my year group.” I put this book off for so long because of the hate on Tiktok for it and I’m mad I did. The author’s controversies aside, I think it’s a good book for people beginning to dive in to the fantasy genre, aka me. The writing is pretty simple, nothing intricate. There is development in and between the characters, though some may say it was a little fast. This is not an enemies to lovers, they both have feelings for each other very early on. Overall everything about it is just simple. Nothing complicated. And that’s not a bad thing because I do like this book. But the simplicity of it, is why I think so many experienced fantasy readers hated on it. Though I will say I’m not entirely sure why it was so hyped either. That being said I will continue the series as I enjoyed reading it.

“I no longer think love is a guarantee of victory or of a happily ever after. But I think it’s a reason to fight for those things. I know my attempt to save Jacks could end in a fiery explosion, but I’d rather go up in flames with him than watch while he burns”. I can’t remember much about the book itself but overall as a series I wish it made me feel the romance and feelings between Evangeline and Jacks more. It felt more like a subplot that wasn’t terrible but could have been done better. While I enjoyed reading the series, I find myself wishing I liked it as much as it was hyped on Tiktok but I’m unable to.

“But Evangeline knew that her heart longed to hope for the best. She believed that people could change; she believed that everyone’s life was like a story with an ending that was not yet written, and therefore everyone’s future held infinite possibilities”. Honestly cannot think of a review to write. I enjoyed reading the book but did find myself mad at the ending. Even so, I am stuck with thoughts of wondering what the hell will happen so I must read the next book. I will say that I wished this was a dual point of view book. I would love to hear Jacks thoughts. It would add so much flare to the story.
