Really loved this Vampire romance. It had familiar tones of a 'Beauty & the Beast vibe with a dash of Pride and Prejudice.

"Varon was a vampire. Known not by his name, but as the 'Devil of Rellington'.

Laina, desperate to find a new life away from her abusive uncle, has no other choice but to flee everything she knew and run toward a new future of her own making. Caught in a blizzard and bleeding to death from the attack of a pack of beasts, she finds herself in the warm walls of Rellington Castle, under the care of Varon Rellington, a vampire. Fearing for her life, Laina fights against the myths of the monster and the man she sees before her.

"He was nothing short of beautiful, the way a wild cat was beautiful as it surveyed its prey."

Definitely recommend this read and can't wait to see more from this debut author. Also purchased the paperback for my collection and would love to dive into Rellington Castle again as I cozy up with a warm fire and bottle of whisky.

This book was a spicy book for a casual weekend read. The spice was well written but a little repetitive at times and and I enjoyed the POV of the Priest. I always find the plot of non-fantasy romance books to be predictable but this one was very textbook and I found myself getting bored with the storyline.

These popular books are all over my TikTok feeds and finishing book 2 of the ACOTAR series, they are starting to grow on me.

The majority of the plot and action come in the second half of the books so I find myself struggling to stay engaged for the first half of the book.

I enjoy the character development of the night court members and their sarcastic sense of humor. The slow burn of the romance in book 2 was nice and the ending surprised me. Definitely better than book 1 and made me interested in seeing where the story is going for book 3.

Description:
Ruling harshly over the Kingdom of Galaris for 500 years, Queen Coren, now a monster of darkness and death, will be challenged by a rebellion, much like the one she fought as a young woman. Reflecting on her life as a young, naive mage, Coren remembers the fight for her life as her family and village threatened to burn her at the stake for a terrifying power beyond her control. Saved by the infamous Fire King, she was welcomed into his castle and trained to become the dark mage of her destiny. Just as Coren was finding her place within this new kingdom, a rebellion threatened everything young Coren thought she knew about herself and her future. That uncertainty rises again 500 years later as a new rebellion aims to strip her of her crown and kingdom.

Review:
I really enjoyed this dark fantasy and the realm of magic created within this story. The concept of mages and witches has been reinvented to tell an amazing story. The author's use of time as a point of view kept me suspended in a constant state of mystery as the story unfolded and held onto me tightly until the end. As you meet Coren and begin to fall in love with her young heart, you meet a different and darker Coren 500 years later as the dark queen. The tale of how she gave herself over to the darkness of her power is both suspenseful and full of sorrow.

At the conclusion, we have some insight into the struggles that book two will introduce us to, and I'm excited to continue the story of Coren.
