Did not finish book. Stopped at 56%.
It has good points, but I think I overestimated my interest in the subject matter. I might give it another chance in the future, but I'll try print instead of audio. I might connect better with the subject then.

A good, intriguing story that spans multiple generations. Good pace, good characters, creepy art.

I don't know how to rate this book, so I settled on 3/5. Good book, but not my personal cup of tea.
The jumps in time are disorienting and the art style is a little too overwhelming for my taste, so I found myself confused most of the time. When the book goes for the throat, though, it HURTS and I found it to be very effective in its portrayal of community and police brutality.
I recommend it. The subject is important and it doesn't pull any punches. The style just wasn't for me.

4.5

A story about the importance of queer friendships and safe spaces.

Regarding the adult/minor relationship trigger warning:
there is a kiss towards the end, which is not great, but it's more symbolic of self acceptance than anything sexual, in my opinion. The relationship itself is friendship, at least in my interpretation. This isn't a book about a 50yo falling for a 15yo if that worries you

I almost gave up mid chapter one but I'm glad I didn't. This is a fun read and the main character becomes more interesting after chapter two.
