I read this book for a class and honestly did not enjoy it at all. The concept was interesting but the execution fell very short. This book felt like a lot of different genres in an unorganized way, and I think the author could have definitely used more showing in her writing style. I know that this book is considered middle-grade, but I still think there were a lot of things that could have been done better, because I don't think it's the fact that I'm out of this age range that I did not enjoy the book. 1/5 stars
kind of surprised at how much i ended up liking this graphic novel. it felt very chaotic at first and i almost felt lost at the beginning, but i later ended up enjoying it towards the end! 4/5 stars
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

there is a reason why schwab is one of my favorite writers of all time. every book she’s written has been nothing but a masterpiece! i finished this book so quickly because i could not put it down, and i immediately fell in love with the characters. what better way to celebrate fall with a spooky read? the concept of the monsters in this urban fantasy world was so cool. i can’t wait to start the second book! 4.5/5 stars
definitely felt like i had to sit with this book for a bit. not only was this very bizarre, but it was also the good kind of weird. like i’m almost unsure of what exactly happened in this story because of all the twists and shakily drawn line between one’s psychosis and one’s reality. the concept overall was so well done though, and i enjoyed the literary aspect of awad’s writing style. 3.5/5 stars
a fun mystery read perfect for the fall season! this was my first read from agatha christie and i seriously loved it so much. the unpacking of the mystery felt simple but also pretty tense, and i really loved the continuous suspense that kept me hooked the entire time. 4/5 stars!
i think the concept of this book was what drew me to it, but i wasn’t a big fan of the way it was written. si was an insufferable character and made it difficult for me to actually enjoy him as a narrator. i think it was still cool to see the time traveling to modern day new york and 19th century new york, especially because it’s something we all think about at one point when we visit big cities. what would new york look like back then? i think some scenes could have been condensed into shorter pages and still have the same impact, because a few parts of the book started making me bored. this was an okay read overall. 3/5 stars
beautiful and thought provoking. this book felt like a breath of fresh air, especially with mandel’s prose. i absolutely love her writing and this book was everything i loved: sci-fi and literary. i enjoyed this a lot more than station eleven. there were so many parts here that were very reflective and had to make me pause and reconsider life for a moment. i can’t wait to reread this in the future. 5/5 stars
so maybe this just wasn’t my cup of tea, but i’m actually surprised that a lot of people hyped up this book. i personally found it to be just okay. the plot itself felt like it was pulling from a whole bunch of previously written books (i got MAJOR hunger games/red rising vibes here) and the writing itself left me feeling bored at times. i get a bit nit-picky when it comes to words being overused, and i can’t tell you how many times i sighed out loud in exasperation when i saw the same damn verbs being used in each chapter. something about the pacing felt rushed too, and i think this book started to feel more like a badly written fan fiction than an actual novel. the plot was entirely predictable aside from that one part in the ending. i think the book had a lot more potential if it was less focused on milking the enemies to lovers & love triangle including 2 brothers trope. there were also just wayyy too many cliche parts for my liking—and im someone who loves cliche. i don’t think i’ll be reading the next book, since i didn’t enjoy this one very much. 2/5 stars
there really is no need for words here, aside from the fact that i have been missing out on harry potter for too long! so glad i finally started this series. 5/5 stars!
