The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing

5.0

I am devastated.
Really, I should take a few days to ponder, analyze, digest The Fifth Child before I read anything else. (Not that I will, but I should.)
This is not the typical "evil child" horror novel that the synopsis might suggest.

“We are being punished, that’s all.”

“What for?” he demanded, already on guard because there was a tone in her voice he hated.

“For presuming. For thinking we could be happy. Happy because we decided we would be.”
