Pen, a college student from Toronto, has moved to Edinburgh to study there.  While she is there she decides to meet up with her dad's friend Lennox (a famous author) and his family.  There is something going on with the family that she can't quite figure out, but she knows that they seem to be keeping something from her.  I enjoyed this novel and all of the characters.  I was hoping for a crazy ending where the family is psycho, but that doesn't happen (I don't think that it is much of a spoiler).  The book was easy to read and get through, but I don't know if it will be one that stays with me in the long run.  They explain the title of the book later on it, but I think that a different title would have been better (it really has nothing to do with an Octopus).
