Stash: My Life in Hiding by Laura Cathcart Robbins

5.0

One of the best memoirs that I’ve recently read in that she truly holds nothing back and doesn't self edit to look good. Laura is the daughter of accomplished parents but rebelled to do her own thing. Doing her own thing meant leaving home at an early age and never getting a high school diploma. Despite not having a formal education she built a solid reputation in the marketing world and eventually opened her own PR firm. Despite external accolades that told her that she was *good enough* Laura instinctively self monitored her behavior, eventually leading to her not really knowing her true self. This self-doubt led to a nasty ambien and alcohol addiction and to a stay in rehab. Yes, she had the life of money and privilege being married at the time to Brian Robbins, CEO of Nickelodean but she is like many people in that struggles come from within and not our external. I might have finished the book but I have a feeling that her story is far from over.
