New Addiction by April Kelley
medium-paced
3.0
This is the first book in a series and needs a lot better world building and character development. It differs from a lot of existing shifter mythology so that setup needs to be better explained.
This story centers on Caerwyn a dragon shifter and Rory a bear shifter. They discover they are mates in passing and Rory wants no part of it. Caerwyn, already grieving and stressed does not take the rejection well. The story centers on then finally finding their way together and having it solidified when a crisis hits.
The story is jumpy and could benefit from a good editor. More character development could enhance our connection to the characters. There are several things mentioned like they might be important and then just dropped. There’s also some contradictory stuff.
I discovered in the notes at the end of the book that there is a series that preceded this one that might have given some of that background but there was no way to know that before starting this one. A note in a foreword probably would have been helpful.
