The Red Sphinx, or, The Comte de Moret: A Sequel to The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
2.0
This was not for me. That's the only explanation I can find for how much of a torture it was to read most of The Three Musketeers, which so many people seem to love. At 50% I seriously considered quitting but I'm glad I didn't because at around the 70% mark this got so much better. I wish Dumas would have written a great 300 page book instead of telling us about D'Artagnan and his friends screwing over innocent inn owners and killing people left and right, which would have been ok if it added to the main plot but it just made me think "am I supposed to root for these assholes?" (even if I did have a soft spot for Athos, probably the worst of the 4). I just hope The Count of Mont Cristo which is waiting for me in my shelf is a bit more straight to the point.
