Ugh. I haven't stopped reading a book halfway through in ages, but I just can't bring myself to finish this.

I love faeries, particularly dark interpretations of them, and that was enough for book one. Even then, the narrator irritated me and the romance seemed lame at best, but hey, faeries! So I picked up book two (twice even, as I tried to read it about a year ago and quit a few chapters in). But after half a book and hardly any action, I'm abandoning the attempt. The writing is divided evenly into thirds: summarizing every single thing that happened in the first book, reflecting on how much the character's life has changed and how different she is, and last and certainly least, actual forward plot movement. The protag annoys me, but I can get past that and still end up loving a series. But I can't get past horrible pacing, and the constant rehash of previous events finally made me snap.

I'll still recommend this occasionally at work, as so many of my friends love the series and it seems to get positive reactions from most paranormal fans. But for me personally, two tries is more than enough. Done.
