An enemies-to-lovers, slow burn romantasy? Say less.

That's about all I knew about this going in though. And WOW, did I really enjoy it! I could not put this one down! I'm mad it took me so long to finally read this one.

The book starts with a bang with our FMC, Arwen, getting captured and taken as a prisoner to be a healer for an enemy kingdom in exchange for her brother's life. And I was immediately hooked!

I loved how fast-paced the story was. The ending of each chapter had me needing more. The writing was captivating and flowed well, and the world-building was easy to follow. There was more focus on the characters and romance here, but I did not mind one bit. I loved Arwen and Kane as individual characters, as well as their dynamic. Their banter, tension, and chemistry were amazing, and the slow burn between them was perfection. And the side characters were amazing too. I loved Mari and Arwen's friendship, and Dagan too!

And THAT ENDING. Holy shit. Even though I'm sad I waited so long to read this one, I'm also happy I waited until the second installment was published. I'm excited to dive right into A Promise of Peridot. An excellent fantasy debut from Kate Golden and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!

Definitely check this one out if you love enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, slow burn, "who did this to you?", a morally grey MMC, and fae. All of these tropes were expertly done!
