The Bluest Eye presents the reader with a composition of black life, the struggles of navigating a world not built for them but built by them. Morrison allows the characters of The Bluest Eye to explore their own perceptions of beauty and worth within the pages of this story. Morrison’s writing confronts the reader head on with metaphors that allow the reader to explore their own thoughts on the topics she brings up. There is a haunting collection of vignette like chapters that deliver some the most devastating lines in the book. The reader comes away from The Bluest Eye learning more about themselves than the characters that Morrison introduces to.
