I think I'm going to give all of The Penderwicks books 5 stars. The Penderwicks on Gardam Street is a particularly interesting entry in the series because it is not set during a vacation and as such, does not feature much of the lovable Jeffrey Tifton. While I am a huge fan of Jeffrey, it's interesting to see other characters, like Mr. Penderwick, shine. Although the end feels slightly rushed and I am not the biggest fan of one of the subplots, I was again struck by how Birdsall does not shy away from tense and important topics. The emotional moments in this book will stay with me.
