My Cork O’Connor journey continues. The synopsis for this book describes it well. Sub plot centers around daughter Annie and her friend Ulysses, “Ulie”. The murder of Ulie’s brother and his wife are the main focus of the book. Ulie’s struggle to live up to what he believes his father, a retired Marine and gun shop owner, wants gives us the second plot.
The tie ins with the original Anishinaabe story of the hunting party killing a group of Lakotas on land that was later used for the high school, and the hunting at the high school, was well done. I was very worried at one point
for Ulie’s future. Would have been worried for Annie except that I knew she survived because I’ve read one of the later books. The high school shooting was tightly written and very tense. But the aftermath of “Sister Anne” was a little odd. She doesn’t go to college?
