Extrem laut und unglaublich nah by Jonathan Safran Foer
5.0
This was a reread. I bought this book years ago and I was so wary and hesitant before I bought it due to the background of the plot - September 11th. But, my hesitation was unnecessary and I really enjoyed reading this book. But I have to say - I think this is one of these books that you either love or hate.
To be honest I care the most for Oskar and his search. I love his POV and his thoughts and all the questions he asks. I remember reading them and going "Yes! Yes! Yes! I'm asking me these things too." and I'm still asking these questions. And he is breaking my heart. With his grief. With his quest of trying to be closer to his dad and then having to realise that he can't be closer to his dad. *hugs him*
While the story of his grandparents is interesting too - it doesn't touch me the same way like Oskar's does.
I'm wondering how they managed to make a movie from this book. It can't have the same kind of enchantment like book. And this enchantment is what makes the book so, so, so special - the pictures in it. The empty pages. The different fonts and sizes depending on which POV it is. Oskar's POV. Especially Oskar's POV.
