Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

5.0

Wow, what a book! It reminded me of the nights I devoured Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling and the Song of the Lioness series by Tamora Pierce under my covers. I was so hooked and excited that I didn’t want to sleep. This book made me feel that way again. I assumed this book was not for me as an adult, but boy, was I wrong. This book is for anyone who appreciates a good story. It has it all: a strong heroine, two awesome male leads, and a mesmerizing world. Legendborn is a YA urban fantasy novel by Tracy Deonn. It is the first book in a trilogy. The female hero is Bree Matthews, a 16-year-old Black girl who discovers a secret society of magic users descended from King Arthur and his knights at her school campus. Bree joins the society as an initiate, hoping to unravel the mystery of her mother’s death. Along the way, she faces romance, peril, and a dark legacy. The novel has a diverse representation, a fast-paced storyline, and a creative integration of Arthurian legend and Black culture. For example, I loved how Bree used her ancestral magic to fight against the oppressive system of the society. I loved reading this and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I give it a 5/5⭐️.
