A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland
5.0
This book's combination of tackling mental illness and the otherworldly (The Man Who Would be Death) is done so carefully, intricately, and exceptionally. Sutherland manages to weave in a curse and personification of Death into a very real story about fear, anxiety, abuse, emotional vulnerability, depression, and so much more in the world of mental illness, growing up, and healing.
I loved how the storyline with The Man Who Would be Death ended. It was incredibly satisfying to me, honouring both the mythos that the book built up around him without letting that overcome the harsh reality of mental illness.
I immediately recommended this book to a friend after I finished it. It's the perfect combination of real life and a little something exceptional.
