Somehow I managed to miss this book when it came out, and going in I had no expectations, but this turned out to be far and away my favourite book of 2023 so far. Basically flawless.

Emily is in my soul. I'm in Emily's soul. I don't even remember the last time I identified with a character this much.

The author did an interview where she said that Wendell was inspired by Howl, and she really meant that with her whole chest.
