Violeta by Isabel Allende
4.0
Isabel Allende is one of my favorite authors of all time. This novel delivers another fascinating story filled with interesting eccentric characters. It's epic. It's feminist. And it's political commentary. It made me think so much. Some of the things that happened in the novel hit very close to home meaning that they were very much like what was happening in my own life while I was reading. A state legislative representative in the state where my son teaches demanded a list of all professors who teach classes that would be considered racially sensitive. My son's name would be on that list for teaching the classes his university hired him to teach. I don't know if the list was given. I just know that we would be foolish to think that what happened in Chile and other places to those considered to be political dissidents won't ever happen in the United States. Hopefully, others reading this book can enjoy it without feeling more anxiety about events in their own lives. Read this book and enjoy it!
