My favourite thing about this book is that I happened to find the song “Cupid” by Fifty Fifty while reading it. It was just a coincidence that the title of the book and song match, but picking this book up just kept reminding me of the song, so… 😊

So… this was definitely a book. 🙂 Listen…. I just… I don’t have much to say about this book. I thought I’d really enjoy it, but I just couldn't get into it. The 1st half was a chore to get through, but the 2nd half actually got better and more interesting. Unfortunately, though, at that point I was already so unengaged with this story that I didn’t really care when things finally picked up in the last half. This is a book I read, and that’s it. I’ll probably forget about it soon enough.

The characters were alright. At first, Jude annoyed me a bit. I didn’t really understand why they just kept lying about the most unnecessary things, but I’ll just chalk that up to them being nervous about their first time going to school. Fortunately, they stopped with that crap and became a more tolerable character. I actually ended up enjoying Jude as a MC. I also liked Jude’s friendship with Neve and Alice. The girls were good SCs, and Huy was a nice LI. I do think the other SCs (Jude’s “found family”, if you will) were mostly irrelevant. Jude’s bff Cal was fine (though I couldn’t tell you a single personality trait of his). The adults were so forgettable I only remember one of their names (it was Leah and…..??? lollll idek and I just finished the book agshjsajsdk).

I didn’t really care about the romance in this book, which is definitely a problem, since this is a romance book 🥴 lmaooo. Jude fell in love with Huy in like 1 week (they also mention that they fell in love with their “ex” when they first saw him… literally love at first sight…). I’m just sooooo tired of insta-love!!! And like, this book’s insta-love wasn’t even that egregious. They actually spoke for a while, became friends, and only really kissed at the very end, but I just COULDN’T ignore the fact that Jude had only met Huy like a couple of weeks prior, and was already thinking about marrying, adopting, growing old, and dying with Huy!!! 😭 It doesn’t matter how cute their moments together are. I just CAN’T take a romance seriously if they’re THIS in love with each other after such little time… I just didn’t feel anything about their romance, because, to me, it felt rushed. So, in the end, while I actually FELT something for these characters, I just couldn’t FULLY sink into it, because I never fully believed in their bond.
I did kind of enjoy the open ending, I guess. Realizing Jude would forget about their bff Cal, and about Huy (and I guess about Alice and Neve too??? Idk, they’re never mentioned again lol) definitely made me a little sad. Jude and Huy’s little “meet cute” at the end was also sweet, I guess. I never fully cared about their romance, though, so…. Also, maybe I’m just dumb, but like….. Kissing a human would make that human forget about Jude, and Jude would become human and forget the person they kissed, right? So…. Why didn’t Jude just kiss somebody else??? Then they’d still become human, but Huy wouldn’t forget about them??? Right? Idk… I feel like there could’ve been an alternative to this whole memory loss thing.

Something I didn’t really love was Jude’s internal conflict with being a Cupid. I think the point of this story was to have Huy be a catalyst for Jude’s realization that they don’t want to be a Cupid, and that having that much responsibility (and a literal job) from childhood isn’t a good thing. However, I don’t think Jude’s internal struggles with being a Cupid were very well developed. To me, it seemed like they mostly stemmed from Jude’s crushes. It genuinely just felt like Jude fell in love with some boys in just a couple of weeks (Leo and Huy) and they made Jude want to give their entire life up. This book could’ve explored how difficult it is to be a Cupid, but instead it was just about a teenager pondering if they should make a life changing decision for a boy they literally only knew for 2 weeks…

Other than that, I just have to add: I didn’t like all the unnecessary pop culture references. But I really loved the representation!
