The whole thing isn't very good, but the first quarter following a future sorceress-researcher is silly. Tying this into the Arthurian legend is stupid and annoyed me immediately. Having the Battle of Brenna be retold via a random surgeon is baffling. The ending deaths have no impact, as they play out like they are being checked off a to-do list. Geralt and Yennefer agreeing to commit suicide so that Ciri can be forced into an incestuous relationship with her own father is so out of character for them--literally the whole series they risk their lives for her and tons of people die, and now they are fine with this scenario? And if it's true that they all get to leave because Ciri cried...really?
This seems like a fever dream, not related to the series thus far. Pretty bad. Why am I even reading this?
Also, I tried the audiobook and Peter Kenney is the most obnoxious fuck I've ever heard. His over emphasis on random parts of sentences and ridiculous voices (especially his obscene feminine and gasping creature voices) make me want to vomit. It's the equivalent of an annoying child doing a line reading that no one likes, but the child's parents tell him he's doing an amazing job. I got 20% in before I couldn't take it anymore and waited for the e-book to become available from my library.
