My love for Hamlet the play wants me to love this book and I thought that I would not like it after I read the first chapter. But I carried on and it took me longer because I was in a reading slump when I picked it up but I’m so glad that I saw a book club discussion of Hamnet and a Blackwell event with the author on youtube yesterday. It made me want to finish the book and there was just a whole level of appreciation for the book now that I knew some if the back ground on the book.

The writing style and storytelling was done so well. The emotions were shown so clearly. The prose was beautifully, artfully and tactfully written. I’ve never read anything like this before. I would want to read more books from the author.

I didn’t like Agnes’s character at first but grew to not only love her but also relate to her. The family drama was written tastefully and the slices of life during the Victorian era included in the story just enhanced it and made it so endearing.

The ending was beautiful. It haunts me and I think I am on the verge of a book hangover.

I read along with the audiobook. I recommend you do that because it definitely helped make my enjoyment of the book better.

Definitely adding this book to my collection and can’t wait to re-read it.
