Ezrah thought he had gotten away from his controlling ex, Allen, for good 5 years ago, until he finds a letter on his front door. Allen has found Ezrah, and he won't let him go. As if that weren't life-altering enough, Ezrah is now the guardian of his 9 month old second cousin, Delilah, after her mother dies.

Lucas, 6 months out of the army, gets assigned to the prickly and always on guard single father. When Allen's threatening behavior escalates, protecting Ezrah and Delilah has never been more important. But hiding in a safe house can only last so long before danger finds them.

TW: stalking, mention of controlling behavior (not between MMCs), sexual content.

Tropes: grumpy/sunshine, bodyguard/client, forced proximity, single dad.

This was a middle of the road book for me. I liked most of it, but it's not a favorite of mine. While Ezrah has every right to be cautious of other people, especially those that show interest in him romantically, the way he ran hot and cold, and the way he spoke to Lucas irritated me. Even in the epilogue, Ezrah was snappy and rude to Lucas' friend.

I absolutely adored Lucas, though. He's the sunshine in this grumpy/sunshine trope, and he would do anything to protect his family.

There were a few places that I got confused due to grammatical errors in my digital copy. Describing Lucas' introductions to Allen was the major one for me. β€œA completely average-looking man gets out. He’s brown and brown”. πŸ€”

🌟🌟I received an arc from the author for my honest reivew. 🌟🌟
