Holly is King’s best crime fiction yet. He honed in on everything great in his previous crime works - i.e. the Bill Hodges trilogy, The OutsiderJoylandBilly Summers - and fully amplified it. Something I love about King’s recent shift to crime in favour of horror over the last decade is that he rarely writes a whodunnit; we almost always know who the perpetrator is, and the focus of the novel is always uncovering dark truths. The Covid and Trump mentions in the book do become tiresome after a while, but I think the Authors Note at the end rectifies the choice to include this. Fantastic recent effort from King, for sure.
