Persuasion by Jane Austen

May read for #JABBR!

A little ashamed it took me to the end of the book to realize the meaning of the title :P

A delightful read after the previous month because this one ended up being my favourite! I actually found this one to be a more mature story than Emma. The two main characters are older than in Austen’s other books and the story is more about lost love and careful decisions than passion and spontaneity. They’ve been scarred in the past so they’re a lot more cautious about jumping into things.

These two were my favourite romantic pairing, they’re so sweet but they have to suffer so much! I think the family may be the least likeable out of all the books though. They’re very selfish but their dialogue does make for some good laughs.

Wentworth’s letter to Anne was probably my favourite part of the whole book. Everyone talks about Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth (P&P) but in my opinion Wentworth’s blew that one out of the water. I also found more feminist themes in this one than the others, it felt like Austen was making more overt deliberate statements here.
