A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

2.0

Overall, I didn’t enjoy this. First, let’s talking about the pacing. And by talking about about it I mean question it. I actually loved this book at first. It reminded me of a more exciting Frost Light which I’m also reading right now. After she was taken to the fairy world, things went downhill for me. We had a ton of events and characters that were somehow too slowly brought in and too quickly disappeared. It was hard to get my feet under me and for my interest to be held. Tbh, if there wasn’t such a long wait at the library for this, I would’ve had a much harder time slogging through this. Once we got to the trials, I was much more interested, but I would’ve liked to see those trials drawn out a little more. That action and fantasy is what I was there for. Secondly, I hate this bitch. Climbing a whole mountain to your death for a man you kind of know? I felt like I was on the phone with one of my girlfriends hearing her cry about the man of the month. Also, homegirl could not make a good decision to save her life (until the end). I hate a dumb girl wandering around waiting for a man to come save her. I understand she’s a human in a fairy world but she was very much giving dumb love hungry girl playing down her intellect and ability to make a guy like her.

Things I liked: heart of stone was genius. I really liked the third trial in general and felt like Maas was at her best there. Because I liked the end of the book a lot better, I’m looking forward to the rest of the series but omg I really didn’t like this one.
