A Light in the Flame by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I'm pretty sure I spent a fair amount of time like this while reading ALITF.  Holy hell, Batman!  I don't know how Jennifer L. Armentrout managed to balance the angst, smexy and action, but she did and this book was everything.

Ash and Sera had already topped Cas and Poppy in my mind, but I didn't realize just how much until this 2nd installment.  We spend a lot of time in Sera's head, so we know exactly what she's dealing with (and her fated path and her feelings towards Ash do not give her a break) but what was more heartbreaking was the amount of information Ash was keeping to himself and/or dealing with the fallout of that information that impacted in Sera in such a way that I was crushed.  If there was ever a class on how lack of or miscommunication can damage a relationship, this two could teach the masterclass.

Let's talk about some of the secondary characters.

Nektas - I love his crotchety ass and how he help hold Sera as family.
Reaver - I love him and can see how he grew up to be more like his adoptive father than any of the other adults he's been around.  I must go back to read ATOTQ just for Reaver
Jadis - I need more little girl Jadis and Sera <3
Ector, Bele, Aios, Rhain, Saion, Rhahar, Orphine, Ehthawn- the love this devoted group has for Nyktos is epic.  But the fact that they start embracing Sera too is amazing for her.  The other stuff...it's still too painful to think about.

I'm not going o get into the villains of this story, because there are many who all deserve a throat punch.  Kolis and Veses are at the top of the list of those that deserve it, but I'm going to let all of you read this book and develop your own list of those that need a slow, painful (oh so painful) death for all to see.

The next year is going to kill me and I know an epic re-read is going to be needed before I delve into the last book in this series, but I can't wait.  Ash...I know that kardis is there...you just don't know it.
