Alexa, play Daylight by Taylor Swift
I reread this book for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I needed a serotonin boost. And I never got around to writing the review this book deserved when I read it 10 months ago.
Let me just say, I absolutely adore this book. Every little aspect of it captivates me. This book has kept me up until the early hours of the morning twice now. The only reason I wasn’t sobbing into its final pages at sunrise this time around was because of this week’s time change and NyQuil.
Emily Henry's writing has always struck a chord with me. The way she effortlessly blends light-hearted humor with gripping emotion is truly remarkable. Her ability to create beautifully flawed characters that resonate deeply with readers is unparalleled. You grow with them throughout her stories.
But this reread affirmed that THIS is the Emily Henry book that I love the most. It feels like this book was written specifically for me. There's something about the story of January and Gus that just resonates with me on a deeper level than her other novels. The banter, the tension, the romance, the struggles, and heartbreak – everything about Beach Read is simply MORE THAN in comparison. Also, Gus Everette is THE Emily Henry book boyfriend. Change my mind.
I don’t think I’ll ever find the words to properly explain why I love this book so thoroughly. I just simply DO. Perhaps that's why I never wrote a review for this in the first place. Emily's books, overall, elicit such a deep emotional reaction in me that putting it into words feels like an impossible task. She has this remarkable talent for making readers feel seen through all the intricate details of her stories and characters. She's become a comfort author for me.
So, I'll just say it plain and simple: I love fucking love this book. So much so, that I actually physically highlighted it. And if that’s not love for a book, I don’t know what is.
Small edit: I listened and read along to the audiobook for this re-read. And I LOVE the narrator that does all of Emily's novels, Julia Whelan. I've listened to Happy Place and Book Lovers as well and she does a phenomenal job every time.

Quotes
"Every single person on the planet had to take turns hurting. Sometimes all you could do was hold on to each other tight until the dark spat you back out."
__
"Falling's the part that takes your breath away. It's the part when you can't believe the person standing in front of you both exists and happened to wander into your path. It's supposed to make you feel lucky to be alive, exactly when and where you are."
__
"I've never met someone who is so perfectly my favorite person."
__
“I thought—think it’s brave to believe in love. I mean, the lasting kind. To try for that, even knowing it can hurt you.”
__
“You’ve alwyas been this fierce fucking light, and even when you’re at your worst, when you feel angry and broken, you still know how to be a person. How to tell people you—you love them.”
__
"When I watch you sleep,” he said shakily, “I feel overwhelmed that you exist."
__
“When you love someone… you want to make this world look different for them. To give all the ugly stuff meaning, and amplify the good.”
__
“I don’t need snowflakes.” He kissed me. “As long as there’s January.”
__
“You’re so beautiful, January,” he whispered, kissing me more tenderly. “You’re so fucking beautiful, you’re like the sun.”
