A Promise of Peridot by Kate Golden
4.0

*mini-review* (because I forgot to write a full one and now it's been a bit...)
I’m a little torn on how I feel about this one. While it was eventful, I found myself getting easily distracted while reading this. It didn’t grip me the way the A Dawn of Onyx one did, like there was something missing. But maybe this is a “it’s not you, it’s me” thing because I still loved the writing, characters, and character development. And I definitely plan to read the third installment!

Quotes
“It’s not enough to just survive, Arwen. You have to actually live.”

“I told you once there is power in harnessing year fear. There is also power in vulnerability. It is what makes us human, and gives us something worth fighting for.”
__
“That’s what birds represent. Stranded sailors look to the sky to be led by them back to dry land. Birds soar through the dawn each morning, sure as the sun rising in the east–the promise of something new, regardless of what came before. Hope always has wings.”
__
“There’s always something to fear. That’s the price of anything worth doing.”
