Ashoka: the Search for India's Lost Emperor by Charles Allen

4.0

For a book that is written on a very niche topic, the depth and details make the reading very captivating at few times but boring also at other places. The first half of the book is really good and feels like a thriller where the pieces in the mystery of legendary king Ashoka also known as piyadasi and chakravartin start to fit slowly, one by one. But once the mystery of Ashoka is solved, the book feels too detailed, where a lot is written on specific rock edicts. Overall, it is a well-researched and very interesting book.
