The Gathering Storm by Robin Bridges
5.0
I loved this book - it is a wonderful mix of fantasy, paranormal and romance. Anyone who enjoys any or all of these things will definitely like this story.
Katerina grew up with a gift/curse for waking the dead. She made a point to keep this a secret and never told anyone about it but somehow, people around her knew what she was. I loved that this book combined the world of vampires, faeries, zombies, and witches with Russian aristocracy.
A lot happens in this book. There are a lot of balls and social events attended but the action outside of these are key as well. I enjoyed all of the characters in this story. Katerina is the main character and although her mother is pushing her toward marriage and family, she would like to be a doctor someday. She is supported by her father in this and he understands how important it is to her. There are a lot of characters in this book but they all have a key role in how the book progresses from Katerina's cousin Dariya, her roommate Elena, Crown Prince Danilo and of course, the grand duke George. I found that despite the number of characters, each one was developed enough for me to like or dislike them...and there was a lot of both.
I am very much looking forward to the next book of this trilogy. I found myself unable to put this down and as soon as I finish writing this review I will be looking to see when the next book comes out and it will be going on my "Really want to read" shelf. I am very curious to see how the next year goes (based on how this book ended) as well as what happens with Danilo and family.
