Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado

4.0

“He is not a bad man, and that, I realize suddenly, is the root of my hurt.”

i’ve never been a huge fan of short stories, but these definitively changed my mind. another one of the books i got for christmas, i wasn’t sure what to expect from this one since i had never heard of it before.

i’ll be the last to admit, that at times, i was beyond confused as to what was happening. in particular, the SVU episode mock-ups really confused me, but after reading summaries and explanations online, the premise of this book became a lot more clear to me.

i can’t state my thoughts on this book any better than this article, so i’m stealing it; “…That’s the problem, isn’t it? A woman’s body never exists in isolation. There is always her body, and there are also always all those other parties who believe they are entitled to it.”
