London Labour and the London Poor by Henry Mayhew

5.0

London Labour gives a whole new perspective to Victorian times in the UK - I wholly recommend this book to people that enjoy Victorian era novels as the information supplied in London Labour enhances any 19th century reading.

I have learned so much of the different jobs that used to be done around London, from crossing sweepers to mud larks, cat meat men and omnibus drivers.

What happened to honest workers once they hit the bottom and what social system was in place to help the sick that aren’t able to work, are questions answered in London Labour and the London Poor.

If you’re interested in history, this is definitely the book to read.
